Emily Dickinson

My name is Emily Dickinson and I was born in Amherst, Massachusetts,in 1830. I communicate with others throughout my poetry. Many considered me an outcast and a eccentric person although, I had many friends who tried to comfort me. I isolated myself from humantiy and life, but I kept my close friend next to me. It was poetry who was my companion, when I locked myself in my bedroom and forgot about my loved ones. I expressed my thoughts by writing and throughout my lifetime I wrote about 2,000 poems. I became sick in bed at age 55. I refused to see a doctor and death took me on May, 15 1886.

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

The poem describes how a bird signifies hope and its feathers bring hope to fly into a new beginning. When the bird sings it is singing songs that bring hope forever. It means hope comes to those who desire it and not to those who hurt others in this case, those who hurt the bird will be given pain. Lastly, hope can be found anywhere as long as you want it.
